Elton John Loses Libel Case over "Tax Dodge" Story

Elton John's track record when it comes to suing British papers is pretty good, but not this time.  According to The Guardian, Elton's lost his libel suit against the U.K. paper The Times over a story that he claimed implied he was a tax cheat.
Two June 21 articles in the paper about "the secrets of tax avoiders" mentioned Elton several times, and Elton claimed that they implied he'd used as his accountant a guy who allegedly ran a controversial tax avoidance scheme.  The day after, the paper published a correction, acknowledging that the man had never worked with Elton, but the singer still sued, with his attorneys claiming "the allegations are particularly damaging to [Elton's reputation] in the sphere of charity fundraising."
Unfortunately, the judge did not agree.  According to The Guardian, U.K. High Court justice Michael Tugendhat ruled, "The conclusion I have reached is that the words complained of are not capable of bearing the meaning attributed to them by the claimant or any other defamatory meaning."
It's not clear whether Elton will have his lawyers appeal, reports The Guardian.
