Paul Simon's Graceland Documentary to Air as an Episode of PBS' Great Performances

Under African Skies, the recent documentary that focused on Paul Simon's return trip to South Africa in 2011 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of his landmark album Graceland, will air as an episode of PBS' Great Performances next month.  The program, titled Paul Simon's Graceland Journey: Under African Skies, is set to premiere on select stations on January 4 at 9 p.m. ET; check your listings for exact air times.
The film follows Simon as he travels back to South Africa to reconnect and perform with his Graceland collaborators.  It also features the singer/songwriter's recollections of the making of the album, including the controversy surrounding his decision to record with African musicians during a time when a cultural boycott of South Africa had been imposed to protest the country's apartheid policy.  In addition to interviews with Simon, Under African Skies features conversations with Paul McCartney, David Byrne, Quincy Jones and Harry Belafonte, among others.
Under African Skies premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and went on to win an Emmy Award, as well as numerous honors at various other movie fests.  The documentary is available on DVD, and was included in deluxe versions of the 25th anniversary reissue of Graceland.
