Barbra Streisand to Cast Lady Gaga in Remake of Gypsy?

Their music is very different, to say the least, but it appears that Barbra Streisand is a big fan of Lady Gaga.  How do we know?  Because as Time magazine reports, the legendary diva is considering casting Gaga in her upcoming movie.
In an article called "Driving Miss Barbra," Time reporter Joel Stein describes going on an hour-long drive with Streisand as a stunt -- her new movie The Guilt Trip casts her as a Jewish mother who goes on a cross-country road trip with her son, played by Seth Rogen.  While summing up their conversation during the drive, Stein writes, "She told me she’s thinking of casting Lady Gaga as the lead in her remake of Gypsy."
Gypsy, which started out as a musical, is loosely based on the memoirs of noted stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, and focuses on a demanding stage mother, Rose, and her efforts to turn her daughters, Louise and June, into burlesque stars.  The remake of Gypsy is being produced by Streisand, who also plans to star as Mama Rose; this seems to indicate that Gaga would be tapped to portray Louise.
There have been two previous filmed adaptations of Gypsy: a 1962 movie starring Rosalind Russell and a 1993 TV movie starring Bette Midler.   Among the famous songs featured in Gypsy: "Everything's Coming Up Roses," "Together (Wherever We Go)" and "Let Me Entertain You."
