Eagles Bassist Timothy B. Schmit Shares Update on Condition After Cancer Surgery

Last month, L&M's Eagles Fastlane fan site reported that Eagles bassist Timothy B. Schmit recently had undergone surgery after being diagnosed with throat and neck cancer in the fall.  Now Schmit has come forward to discuss the operation and his current condition.

In a lengthy message posted on his official website, the 65-year-old musician writes, "Although my issues were disheartening, and I went through what the doctors called 'major surgery,' the truth is I was only bedridden during my three night stay in the hospital."

He adds that, as soon as he was able, he began "daily walks on the streets of Manhattan," adding that a week after that he "received a clean bill of health and headed for home on the west coast."

He also points out that his voice "is coming along nicely," as evidenced by his participation in the Eagles' December 30 concert in Las Vegas.  "The brief synopsis is: I discovered a problem and took care of it," he notes, "simple as that."

As for his upcoming musical plans, Schmit reports, "I'm chipping away at a new solo album, and I wouldn't be surprised if you hear of more Eagles action in the near future." The band, of course, is expected to reveal plans for a 40th anniversary tour soon and will be promoting its new History of the Eagles, Part One documentary that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday.

Also in the note, Schmit thanks fans "for the outpouring of get-well wishes I've received over the last few weeks."
