Styx, REO Speedwagon, Ted Nugent to Mount New Midwest Rock n' Roll Express Tour This Spring
Styx, REO Speedwagon and Ted Nugent are all set to hop on board the Midwest Rock 'n Roll Express for a second year in a row. The joint trek will see the veteran rockers visiting a variety of cities in the midwestern and eastern U.S. this spring. The tour kicks off on April 18 in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and is mapped out through a May 19 concert in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania.
Styx guitarist James "JY" Young tells ABC News Radio that the new trek will be hitting a number of cities that weren't on last year's itinerary, as well as revisiting "places where the three bands are really popular."
Young says the lineup offers "a great cross-section of rock 'n' roll," while noting that each show will be "a great night of the soundtrack to your glorious, misspent youth." He also points out that while fans will get to enjoy the many hits they've come to love from Styx and REO, the real wild card on the bill is Nugent.
"To me [rock 'n' roll] is always, at its core…about teenage rebellion, and Ted sort of takes that to the ridiculous extreme," JY declares. "I don't agree with everything he says but I will defend to the death his right to say it. I find him highly entertaining and he's a source of laughter, and sometimes of surprise."
Regarding what fans can expect from each act's performance, Young notes, "[REO's] set changes a little bit from time to time and ours changes maybe to a slightly greater degree." As for Nugent's set, JY says, "I think [it's] the same [as] he's been doing, but what he says on stage is -- you know, he's an outspoken character."
Styx and REO Speedwagon generally will trade headlining duties throughout the trek. Pre-sale tickets will be made available soon via Styx's and REO Speedwagon's respective fan clubs. Visit StyxWorld.com, REOSpeedwagon.com and TedNugent.com for more information.
