Jon Bon Jovi Cuts Check to Charity After Richie Sambora No-Show

Guitarist Richie Sambora surprised Bon Jovi fans by leaving the group's tour suddenly just before a gig in Calgary, Canada this week.  But maybe the money Bon Jovi saved on Sambora's salary is going to a good cause, because the band announced that it would donate $100,000 to the Calgary Homeless Foundation to make up for Sambora’s no-show, reports The Vancouver Sun.

"They’re cutting the check today and it will be here tomorrow,”  foundation spokeswoman Louise Gallagher told the paper after speaking on Wednesday with Jon Bon Jovi's management.  The foundation's rep goes on to say the gift is a huge boost to the agency and, "such a pleasant surprise... [because] no one here was expecting it.”  Though no official decision has been made yet about how they'll use the $100,000, Gallagher explained that it could easily provide a year’s worth of housing and other assistance for 10 people.

The Calgary Homeless Foundation works with governments, local agencies and faith groups as part of a 10-year initiative to end homelessness.  Of course, charitable giving comes easy to the singer, whose Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation funds various programs to help families and individuals in need.
