NBC says Harland Rose and her family recently won KFC’s baby naming contest. Kentucky Fried Chicken gave Harland $11,000 towards her college education because her parents named her after Colonel Harland Sanders. Harland weighed 8 lb, 1 oz when she was born on September 9th. (I’m sure this will spread to boys named “Papa John” and girls named, “Taco Bell.”)

Denny Douds had been the head football coach at East Stroudsburg University in eastern Pennsylvania for the past 45 years. In total, he’d been coaching at the school for 53 years. And, he decided to walk away from his job in epic style by waiting until the end of a game, calling a timeout and announcing his retirement to the team on the sidelines. After more than 50 years, he surprised everyone by tipping his hat, walking to the car and driving away. (Sports Illustrated)
